Pork Sinigang Recipe (Sinigang na Baboy recipe)

Pork Sinigang is a dish adored by many Filipino and it’s now starting to gain international recognition. This popular Filipino sour soup has been named the World’s Best Soup by Taste Atlas for 2021. Many Filipinos love this dish of sour broth, vegetables, and meat, and it is a staple food in many Pinoy households.
The best way to cook sinigang is to use fresh souring ingredients you can find from the grocery store or supermarkets such as tamarind (Sampaloc), green mangoes, guava, kamias (Bilimbi in English), or calamansi. Alternatively, you can make Pork Sinigang using tamarind powder mix or Sinigang mix, which gives it its distinct sour taste.
In this recipe, you will learn how to make Pork Sinigang the easy way using tamarind powder mix.
Ingredients you will need for this recipe
- 1.5 lbs of pork (you can use pork loin, spare ribs, or pork belly)
- 3 medium-sized tomatoes
- 20-25 pieces of green beans
- 1 large red onion
- 1 large radish
- 1 eggplant
- 8 cups of water
- Singang Mix
How to cook Pork Sinigang
- Heat the pot and add in 8 cups of water
- Then add the pork and bring to a boil
- Add the tomatoes, onion, and fish sauce. Simmer for about an hour or until the pork is tender
- Stir in the radish, banana pepper, and sinigang mix and let simmer
- Add the eggplant and string beans and simmer for about 5 minutes
- Put the spinach in the pot, turn off the heat, and cover it. Use the remaining heat in the pot to cook the spinach.
- Serve with fresh steamed rice and enjoy!
If you want to add extra flavor and kick, you can also serve the Pork Sinigang with fish sauce with banana pepper sawsawan (dipping sauce) on the side.
